How to Choose Women’s Work Shoes & Sneakers

Prefer the profile of a work shoe or sneaker? This collection includes Xena Rogue and Astra in their available toe and color combinations. Both lines have options for different workplace requirements, so the exact variant matters. Start with your employer’s toe and electrical requirements, then compare fit, outsole performance and the details of each model.

Choose protective toe or soft toe

Rogue is available with a steel toe or a soft toe; Astra offers composite toe or soft toe versions. Their protective toe versions are listed to ASTM F2413, while soft toe versions are listed to ASTM F2892. A soft toe version has no protective toe cap and should not be chosen when the job requires impact and compression protection at the toe.

Read the electrical rating with the color

Rogue’s steel and soft toe versions are EH-rated. Astra’s Black Silver version is EH-rated, while White Gold and Charcoal Gray are SD35. Charcoal Gray currently comes with a composite toe. The color choice is part of the safety specification on Astra, not just a styling decision. Confirm the requirement with your workplace and check the selected listing before checkout.

Compare underfoot features

Both Rogue and Astra specify slip resistance on dry, wet and oily surfaces. That rating does not make either shoe slip-proof. Astra also lists puncture resistance; do not assume Rogue has the same feature simply because both sit in this collection. Rogue uses a Vibram outsole, while Astra offers an athletic profile with a cushioned midsole. Compare those details with the surfaces and walking demands of your shift.

Follow the current fit guidance

Xena recommends sizing up at least half a size in Rogue. Astra’s current guidance is true to size as of September 2026, with a half-size increase suggested for wider feet. Neither model currently has a selectable Wide width in this collection. If you need an actual Wide option, compare the Women’s Wide Fit Work Footwear collection.

Be clear about water protection

These shoes are water-resistant, not fully waterproof. For work that requires waterproof footwear, compare the specifications of a waterproof model such as Xena Luna in Women’s Work Boots. A work sneaker’s shape, leather upper or slip rating does not establish waterproof protection.

Check your complete selection

Before ordering, review toe type, color, electrical rating and size together. Use your work socks when measuring and leave comfortable toe room without excessive heel movement. If you move between office areas and the floor, these lower profiles may suit your clothing and routine, but the required workplace protection still comes first.
