A boot can be long enough and still be too narrow. If your toes feel crowded behind the safety cap, buying the next size up may give you more length without solving the pressure across your forefoot.
For women shopping for wide steel toe work boots, the useful first question is simple: does this model actually have a Wide option? In MEM’s Xena lineup, five models do. They cover very different jobs, closures, and electrical requirements, so width is only the first part of the decision.
Which Xena women’s steel toe boots come in Wide?
Our women’s wide-fit work footwear collection brings together Nova, Valence, Gravity, Spice, and Omega. Each has a selectable Regular or Wide width. Choose the width on the product page as well as the size; a photo or a description of a roomy fit does not select the Wide variant for you.
| Model | Profile and closure | Electrical designation | Xena’s sizing starting point |
|---|---|---|---|
| Xena Spice | 6-inch boot; laces and side zipper | EH | True to size; Regular or Wide |
| Xena Omega | 6-inch boot; zipper closure | EH | True to size; Regular or Wide |
| Xena Valence | Chelsea-style pull-on boot | SD35 | True to size; Regular or Wide |
| Xena Gravity | Ankle bootie; zipper closure | Not specified in the current listing | Half a size up; Regular or Wide |
| Xena Nova | Tall riding-style boot; stretch panel | EH | True to size; Regular or Wide |
All five are steel toe models. An EH designation and an SD35 designation serve different purposes; they are not interchangeable. Gravity’s steel toe specification should not be treated as proof of an electrical rating that is not listed.

Choose the work requirements before the boot style
Start with your employer’s footwear requirements: protective toe, electrical designation, puncture resistance if needed, and the surfaces you work on. A boot that fits comfortably still has to meet the job’s requirements.
If EH footwear is required, start your comparison with Spice, Omega, or Nova. If your workplace specifies static-dissipative footwear, Valence is the SD35 model in this group. SD footwear also depends on the approved configuration and workplace system; follow the manufacturer’s instructions for insoles and accessories.
The five models list slip resistance for dry and wet conditions. That is not the same as a listed oily-surface rating. They are also water-resistant rather than fully waterproof boots. If oily floors or sustained wet work are part of your day, those details deserve a separate check. Our guides to electrical-hazard work boots and waterproof versus water-resistant boots explain the distinctions.
Match the closure to the way you work
Spice: laces for adjustment, a zipper for access
Xena Spice is a useful starting point when you want to adjust the fit across the top of your foot. Set the laces with your work socks on, then use the side zipper for entry. Lacing can change how the upper holds your foot, but it cannot make the protective toe cap wider.
Omega: a zipper boot with fewer lacing decisions
Xena Omega gives you a 6-inch steel toe EH boot with a zipper closure. If you prefer that setup, pay particular attention to instep pressure and heel movement during an indoor try-on. A convenient closure still needs to hold your foot securely.

Valence and Gravity: lower profiles for different requirements
Xena Valence is the pull-on Chelsea option. Xena Gravity is the ankle bootie with a zipper. Both can suit an office-to-floor wardrobe, but they should not be grouped together as equivalent safety packages. Valence lists SD35; Gravity does not list an EH or SD designation in the current specifications.
Nova: check the shaft as well as the foot
Xena Nova has a taller riding-style profile. Foot width and calf circumference are separate measurements. The Wide option addresses the foot fit; use Nova’s calf chart to check the shaft instead of assuming a wider foot automatically means a larger calf opening.
How to check a wide steel toe fit at home
- Measure both feet. Record length and width and compare them with the model’s current sizing information. Use the larger foot as the starting point.
- Wear your work socks. The socks you wear on shift affect the fit across the forefoot and instep.
- Check the protective cap. Your toes should not be pressed against the front or sides when standing and walking.
- Check heel hold. Extra room is useful only if your foot stays secure. Notice whether your foot slides forward or your heel moves excessively.
- Try them indoors first. Walk on a clean surface and check fit before wearing them to work. Review MEM’s current return policy before ordering.
Do not count on break-in to fix a safety cap that is too narrow. The upper may soften with use, but a protective cap is not a fit adjustment. If a Wide variant still pinches, a different model may be the better next step.
Frequently asked questions
Is buying a half size bigger the same as buying Wide?
No. A larger size changes length and may change overall volume, but it does not substitute for a model’s selectable Wide width. Check both measurements and the model’s fit guidance.
Do all Xena work boots have a Wide option?
No. MEM currently lists selectable Wide variants for Nova, Valence, Gravity, Spice, and Omega. Astra and Luna have guidance for wider feet, but neither currently has a separate Wide selector.
Which wide model should I start with?
Start with your required safety features, then choose the closure and profile. Spice offers lace adjustment with a side zipper; Omega is another EH zipper option; Valence is the SD35 Chelsea option. Fit is individual.
Are these wide boots fully waterproof?
The five models in this guide are listed as water-resistant. Do not treat them as fully waterproof footwear for sustained wet conditions.
